Robert Galbraith is the pen name used by J.K. Rowling, the renowned author behind the Harry Potter series. Authored books under the Galbraith pseudonym include The Cormoran Strike series, which features crime novels such as The Cuckoo’s Calling, The Silkworm, Career of Evil, and Lethal White.

Why did JK Rowling change her name to Robert Galbraith?

J.K. Rowling adopted the pseudonym Robert Galbraith for her Cormoran Strike series to release the books without the pre-existing expectations and attention associated with her name due to the success of the Harry Potter series. She wanted the books to be judged on their own merits and not in comparison to her previous works. Unfortunately for Rowling, her identity as Robert Galbraith was leaked, but she continued to use the pseudonym for subsequent books in the Cormoran Strike series.

Asked why she chose to use a male pseudonym , Rowling explained:

I certainly wanted to take my writing persona as far away as possible from me, so a male pseudonym seemed a good idea. It doesn’t consciously change the way I write. I think I write differently, because it’s a very different genre. [..] I chose Robert because it’s one of my favourite men’s names, because Robert F Kennedy is my hero [..] When I was a child, I really wanted to be called ‘Ella Galbraith’, and I’ve no idea why.
